Fishing is the most popular sport in the United Kingdom probably because fishermen are able to relax and get away from those everyday things that cause tension and stress.
Many people wish to experience fishing, however without experience they will not know what fishing tackle they need to get started.
There are loads fishing tackle shops around, however most will try to sell to a novice fisherman unnecessary fishing tackle to maximise their sale.

Hooks come in a variety of shape and sizes and are one of the most important parts of of a fishermans equipment. Fishing hooks are not expensive, so you should stock an assortment of hooks for each type of fishing. Most hooks are shaped like a letter “J.”
Rigs are used for catching different species of fish. There are a variety of rigs however the most common rigs are the Float and Crappie. The easiest rig for beginners is the Float.
Sinkers are used to cast lighter lures with the aim to quickly drop the bait to the bed where the fish are located. By using both the floats and sinkers a fisherman is able to keep the line at a chosen position.
In fishing tackle shops, you will find a huge variety of sinkers that come in different sizes, weights, and shapes. Which sinker is used is dependent upon the depth and the current of the water.
The Float which is also known as a bobber or cork is used to let the fisherman know when a fish has taken the bait. The most commonly used floats are pencil, slip and button floats. Floats come in different sizes to fit all kinds of baits and sinkers. The best floats are those that are smaller. The wind may blow the float back towards the fisherman if it were too light and may scare the fish off when it is too big.
Swivels are used when fishing with bait such as a spinner or a minnow. This kind of bait tends to twist and turn, which will give a fisherman problems with the line getting tangled. By using the swivel and connecting it between the line and the bait, it will allow the lure to spin around without tangling up the fishing line. Swivels are not expensive and come in many different sizes to fit the bait and hooks that a fisherman uses.
Other fishing equipment that will be required by the novice fisherman is the tackle box and the bait. The bait would vary depending on the kind of fishing you wish to perform.
I would suggest not purchasing a tackle box until you have tried the sport of fishing and decided that fishing is for you. Good tackle boxes do not come cheaply.
